Garage side roof replacement. We reached out to several companies to inspect our roof and obtain quotes. It was challenging to get in touch with people since it was a mid-sized job and roofers are super busy. Jesse stood out as one of the best due to his prompt communication and very easy to deal with. Jesse and his team did an excellent job, delivering top-quality craftsmanship.Posted on Google![]()

Full re-roof (iron) on my owner occupied 1920s home. Fantastic service from first contact right through to checking in following completion. The cheerful nature, quality of workmanship and professionalism made having Jesse’s team and their contracted scaffolders a pleasure to have on site. As a female home owner I’m always nervous about dealing with trades unless referred from friends and family, I could not recommend HDK highly enough and wish I’d engaged with them sooner. Love the sound of rain on the roof now I don’t have to worry about the leaks :)Posted on Google![]()

If the iron on your Mount Albert home is rusting at the laps, leaking around the fixings or already staining the ceiling, it may be time to consider whether repairs are still worthwhile or a full re-roof is the better long-term option. HDK Long Run Roofing is a long run metal roofing specialist working across Auckland, with completed re-roofing projects here in Mount Albert. We strip the old roof, check the condition of what is underneath, and leave the house watertight in pre-painted steel that is fixed and flashed to last.
Long run metal roofing is our speciality, from re-roofing an existing home and roofing a new build or extension to converting a tile roof to long run metal. We can also take care of associated spouting and flashings so the roofing system drains properly. Every job starts with a free quote and clear written scope, including how any damaged timber found once the old roofing is removed will be handled.
Most Mount Albert enquiries involve an existing roof reaching the end of its serviceable life or a new build or extension that needs long run metal roofing. HDK provides both, along with the associated roofing services needed to complete the job.
Re-roofing: complete replacement of an ageing roof in long run metal. Our re-roofing work across Auckland involves removing the existing roofing so the purlins, valleys and underlying structure can be checked before the new roof is installed.
New metal roofing: roofs for new builds, extensions and garages. We handle new long run metal roof installation in line with the project set-out and your builder’s programme.
Tile-to-metal conversion: swapping a heavy tile roof for long run metal, usually with new spouting at the same time. We do not supply, install or repair tile roofs, so conversion is the only tile work we take on.
Corrugated iron roofing: a familiar profile across many older Auckland homes. A new corrugated iron roof can retain the familiar appearance of the home while providing the durability and performance of a modern long run metal roofing system.
Spouting and downpipes: new spouting installation fitted with the roof so water leaves the building instead of tracking behind the fascia. Internal gutters can also be lined and detailed as part of the roofing work where required.
Metal wall cladding: long run metal wall cladding in matching or contrasting profiles, for residential and light commercial projects, including new extensions and exterior upgrades.
Asbestos roof removal: older sheds, sleepouts and light commercial buildings may still have asbestos-containing roofing. Asbestos roof removal allows the existing roofing to be removed and replaced with a new long run metal system.
Skylights: a re-roof can be an ideal time to add more natural light. Skylight installation can be incorporated into the new roofing system and properly flashed as the new sheets are installed.
HDK specialises in long run metal roofing, with attention paid to the details that determine how the finished roof performs, including flashings, valley joins, fixing patterns and roof penetrations. HDK’s team includes Licensed Building Practitioners (LBPs), with the crew involved from quoting through to installation.
You can check an LBP licence yourself on the Licensed Building Practitioners register, and we encourage you to check licensing before accepting any roofing quote.
Our completed Mount Albert re-roofs give you a better idea of the work involved and the finished result.
Mount Albert · Re-roofing
On Jenny’s home, the old paint had been hiding rust rather than stopping it, and water had started getting through. The existing roofing was stripped back to the framing and the broken fixings removed. We also worked around the concrete chimney, joined the valleys for proper drainage and laid new underlay before installing the new long run metal roofing.
Samir’s rental shared an internal gutter with the neighbouring property, so we lined and detailed the gutter to keep condensation off the framing and added insulation while the frame was open. Scaffolding was installed first, followed by removal of the old roofing and an inspection of the timber. The new roofing, flashings and ridge cap were then installed.
Mount Albert is an established suburb with many standalone homes on relatively compact sites, and those property conditions can influence how a re-roof is planned. Access is usually one of the first things we assess. Narrow driveways and tight side boundaries can determine where scaffolding goes and how sheets are lifted, particularly because long run roofing sheets need a clear path onto the roof.
Some Mount Albert properties also have shared or internal gutters between neighbouring buildings, which require careful planning and detailing. Older homes may still have redundant chimneys or flues that can be addressed as part of the re-roof rather than simply flashed around. Where the property is tenanted, a re-roof is also an opportunity to assess ceiling insulation while the roof is open, alongside the Healthy Homes standards that apply to rental properties.
HDK regularly works across Mount Albert and the surrounding central and western Auckland suburbs.
Quoting starts with the roof, not a price list. We can start with satellite imagery to provide a rough estimate, then inspect the property to confirm the roof profile, pitch, condition and scaffolding requirements. The written quote sets out the agreed scope, including removal and disposal of the existing roofing, underlay, new roofing, flashings and any spouting included in the job.
The condition of the timber underneath is one variable that cannot be fully confirmed until the existing roofing is removed. We only strip what can be replaced and made watertight the same day. If damaged framing is uncovered, we show you what has been found and discuss the additional work before proceeding.
From Mount Albert, HDK also services surrounding central and western Auckland suburbs, including Sandringham, Epsom, Newmarket and Henderson. We also work in Point Chevalier, Western Springs, Kingsland, Balmoral, Avondale and Blockhouse Bay, with the wider service area extending across Auckland and as far south as Takanini.

Most standard Mount Albert houses are stripped and re-roofed within a few days, and both of our published Mount Albert projects were completed in a day. The size and pitch of the roof, scaffolding requirements and site access determine the actual timeframe, which we confirm as part of the project scope.
No. HDK removes the existing roofing so the framing, purlins and valleys can be checked before new underlay and roofing are installed. We only remove what can be replaced and made watertight within the same working day.
The cost of a roof replacement in Mount Albert depends on the roof size, profile, pitch, access requirements and whether additional work such as spouting or timber replacement is needed. We give a rough estimate from satellite measurements, then inspect the property and provide a written quote based on the required scope.
Yes. Tile-to-metal conversion is one of our regular jobs, often with new spouting fitted at the same time. HDK does not supply, install or repair tile roofs, so conversion is the only tile-related work we do.
Yes. HDK works with landlords and property managers on re-roofing projects, and the work can also provide an opportunity to assess ceiling insulation or internal gutters while the roof is open. We can send the quote and scope straight to you or your property manager.
