Pedro
4 days
Blockhouse Bay, Auckland
When Pedro’s Blockhouse Bay home started leaking through its ageing decromastic tile roof, our team at HDK Long Run Roofing stripped the old tiles, reinforced the timber framework, and installed a full .55 Corrugated Coloursteel roof — all wrapped up in four days.
Services Delivered: Decromastic tile removal, re-purlining, underlay, .55 Corrugated Coloursteel roofing, flashings, internal gutter work
Need a decromastic roof replacement in Blockhouse Bay?
Pedro’s decromastic tile roof had reached the end of its useful life. Leaks had appeared across multiple sections of the roof, and the property had several complicating details — internal gutters sitting right next to the upper storey and a set of unusual angled ridges that made a straightforward repair impractical.
Pedro needed a full re-roofing conversion to long run metal — a roof that would handle Auckland’s weather and put an end to the constant leak chasing.
The lower level presented two internal gutter sections that could not simply be flashed over. To get the 150 mm of clearance needed at the back of each gutter, we had to remove two weatherboards per gutter section.
That gave us the working space to set the gutter heights correctly and ensure proper water flow — a detail that would have caused drainage problems down the track if it had been skimped on.
With the weatherboards temporarily removed, we positioned each internal gutter at the correct fall, sealed the joins, and reinstated the cladding once the gutter-to-roof connection was watertight.
The finished roof uses .55 gauge Corrugated Coloursteel — a profile rated for Auckland’s exposure zones — with all flashings, ridges, and barges replaced to match. Every fixing point was sealed and checked before we handed the job back.
Thinking about converting your tile roof to long run metal?
Pedro’s Blockhouse Bay home now sits under a new Coloursteel roof — watertight, built to code, and completed on time and on budget within four days. No more leaks, no more crumbling decromastic tiles, and a roof rated to handle decades of Auckland rain and coastal conditions.
Delivered on schedule — Four days from strip to handover, exactly as quoted.
Solved the internal gutters properly — Removing the weatherboards to get the 150 mm clearance was extra work, but cutting corners there would have meant drainage failures within a few years.
A clean, consistent finish — Coloursteel corrugated from ridge to gutter with matched flashings, leaving the property looking sharp and fully weatherproofed.
